THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS is a Christmas float which has been constructed by Elvis E. York and friends of Jamestown, KY and displayed every Christmas si nce 1995. Each year the float consists of a tractor decorated with hundreds of Christmas lights pulling a wagon which has a small house (presently a toyshop) and many samples of the kinds of toys which might be produced there. Two of the samples are rather extravagant. The first is a fully functioning carousel with four horses which rotates with the horses moving up and down. The carousel was constructed in 1999. The second is the replica of a Ferris Wheel which was constructed in 2000. The wheel is six feet in diameter, has twelve seats occupied by such famous Beanie Babies as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Tweety Bird, Bugs Bunny and old-timer Elmer Fudd along with some modern friends such as Pikachu and Meowth. As the Ferris Wheel rotates, it carries it’s passengers around an eighteen foot circle and the entire wheel is covered with Christmas lights. The carousel and Ferris Wheel were built by Elvis E. York with help on the machine work by Marshall Coffey and painting by Becky Hadley. The completely assembled unit is 51 feet in length and 12.5 feet high.

The pulling unit for the float (a 3688 International farm tractor) has a patriotic look with American flags, red, white, and blue lights...
